Melodifestivalen-2013: 1st semifinal
Though I've put a blog to a slower tempo, you can always feel my presence on twitter and you know that I'm somewhere close when Melodifestivalen season is on.
The first bunch of Melodifestivalen is finally delivered ready to compete for the tickets to Friends Arena tonight.
This week David Lindgren is coming back with "Shout It Out" follow-up, sounding more mature and a bit smelling with SHM's "Save The World" (though probably with not as instantly sticking chorus but with a tougher production).
Michael Feiner and Caisa perform wonderful The Attic-sounding dance-anthem with saxophone.
Yohio surprisingly makes Cinema-Bizarre-goes-schlager-rock track.
Mary N'diaye is doing afro-dance track out of "Waka Waka" family.
Eric Gadd leaves his soul-past behind to explore Oscar Linnros-style.
Anna Järvinen though being compared to Caroline af Ugglas-2009 sounds quite Anna Maria Espinosa to me but looking at press hailing it seems like she has much bigger chances.
Jay-Jay Johanson performs the song which could be one of his non-MF singles though quite stronger and lighter than usual.
Cookies N Beans has Fredrik Kempe-penned song looking like a distant dramatic country-relative to Fredrik's Moving On/Alive/Hollow. Particularly production of bridge sounds very Hollow.
In this bunch my The Attic-loving heart falls instantly for Michael Feiner and Kempe-drama of Cookies N Beans. But David has prepared the most complete pack this week and I do like a spring Linnros-mood of Eric's song. But after listening to full versions I'm completely team Yohio. Really worthy piece of schlager-rock with amazing dramatic verses and pretty catchy choruses (and Yohio is already #3 by final winning odds by the way). So this is pleasant line-up, not as strong as it could be but some good stuff to stick into a player is there.
P.S. If you've missed the most awesome annual schlager-photoshooting, download fresh QX and enjoy this year's participants like you've never seen before!

Mary N'diaye - Big Dreamer
Two years have passed since we've first met Mary N'diaye with a grand pop-track "Dumb Dumb", brilliant debut which has got follow-up only this year with a single "Lions Of Terranga" and with a brand track "Big Dreamer" presented now after Mary's participation in The Voice and getting contract with Universal.
"Big Dreamer" feels like Taio Cruz-esque bridge between loads of current pop-dance trends connecting them to an internationally sounding gem with an utterly tasty production and explosive chorus.

Mary N'diaye - Lions Of Teranga

Wonderful Mary N'diaye is back! After that colourful pop-explosion girl has arranged in 2010 with single "Dumb Dumb" and still looking awesome video Mary was rolling in music world of Sweden (for example she was featuring singer on the latest Monty's album) but didn't present new solo-works at all.
While we expect Mary to appear in The Voice Sverige and keep our fingers crossed for her Mary premieres new song "Lions Of Teranga" which is the result of her collaboration with producers Christoffer Wikberg and Fredrik Sonefors who lately worked with artists like ELY and Coco (Love Generation's Mikaela).
"Lions Of Teranga" sounds like a big summerish sport anthem in "Waka Waka" mood covered with RedOnesque dance-sound, track has become a dedication to Mary's Senegalese fans and national football team Lions Of Teranga. Amazing gift and lovely "making of" video.

Mary N'diaye - Dumb Dumb

Sweden's got new pop-star making her impressive first steps and building her future career, name of this star is Mary N'diaye.
Mary is 23 years old, she has roots in Senegal/Gambia but was born and brought up in Stockholm and got her musical education in Sweden as well. Currently she's working with Air Chrysalis Scandinavia but she's already started her way to the big stage few years ago. Her new site is on the way but you can check some previous stuff on old page to taste her beautiful voice and to watch videos for previous singles "Yengal" and "Family".
New single "Dumb Dumb" was recorded with producer Jaakko Salovaara (BoomFunk MCs, Darude's Sandstorm) and Christoffer Vikberg (Danny, Edurne), it's a very stylish mix of electro-dance-pop with African/Caribbean vibes and special Mary's vocal. Mary herself calls her style "urban rock'n'roll". Video contains loads of bright images, beautiful color solutions and charisma of this utterly sweet and talented artist. I can say without any doubts it's one of the best Swedish music videos this year.
You can also watch live performance of "Dumb Dumb" and check another new Mary's great song "Take Me Home".
